Beyond The Students: EQ2Homes Holds Teachers’ Training at Eagles’ Educational Centre, Benin City, Nigeria.

On Monday, 17th June 2024, the EQ2Homes team in Edo State, led by the State Supervisor, Mr. Believe Godwin, organized a training for the teachers of our partner institution, Eagles Education Centre, Benin City, as part of our partnership and support initiatives with our partner institutions. These trainings usually target areas identified in our projects to be key areas of development for the teachers and caregivers in working with their students. They also provide vital opportunities for our teams to interface with the teachers of our partner institutions, understand their challenges, and get feedback that helps synergize our work and the teachers’ jobs, creating both connection and learning opportunities for everyone.

What Happened At The Training?

The session was facilitated by our Training lead, Mr. Chimezie Nwabueze, who connected virtually with the participants. The focus of the session was on helping the teachers explore the dynamics of their influence over their students in light of the diverse influences they face in their lives, and getting them to step into the minds of the teenagers to decode the students’ psychological needs and how they as teachers can provide those as windows of positive influence over their students. They were introduced to 6 fundamental needs that mediate influence over the teenager and how they could leverage those in their classrooms.

There was time for a quick game of Two Truths & A Lie to liven the room, and the teachers engaged in some discussions and question sessions with the facilitator. The teachers expressed deep gratitude for the session and the lessons learned and commended the intentionality of EQ2Homes in ensuring a holistic impact in our partnership with them.

What More?

As part of our ongoing efforts to ensure that children have access to quality social and emotional learning, we recognize the need to assist and empower the teachers, caregivers, and institutions involved in the education and training of the children. We seek to continue partnering with institutions of learning, special homes, and orphanages to both empower the children and equip the teachers and caregivers who work with them by providing workshops and trainings that equip them to better understand the needs of these children.
